These Millionaire Bars Have the Thickest Caramel Layer
Also known as Caramel Shortbread: a crisp Scottish shortbread base, covered with an ultra-thick layer of simmered condensed milk caramel, capped with smooth dark chocolate that snaps when cut. Difficulty: Moderate.
Ingredients
- Base: 1/2 cup butter, 1/4 cup sugar, 1 cup flour
- Caramel: 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk, 1/2 cup butter, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 2 tbsp corn syrup
- Topping: 6 oz semi-sweet chocolate & 1 tbsp butter, melted
Directions
Bake shortbread base
Press shortbread into 8x8 pan. Bake at 350Β°F for 18β20 mins until light golden. Cool.
Boil condensed milk caramel
Boil caramel ingredients in saucepan over medium-low heat, whisking constantly for 6β8 mins until thick and golden. Pour over shortbread.
Spread chocolate and chill
Melt chocolate and butter; spread over caramel. Chill 2 hours until set before slicing into squares.
