A decadent chocolate layer cake with a whimsical name: dark fudge chocolate sponge slathered in tangy cream cheese buttercream and smothered in crushed chocolate cookies. Difficulty: Moderate.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour & 2 cups sugar & 3/4 cup Dutch cocoa powder
- 2 tsp baking soda & 1 tsp baking powder & 1 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs & 1 cup buttermilk & 1/2 cup oil & 1 cup hot coffee
- Frosting: 8 oz cream cheese, 1/2 cup butter, 3 cups powdered sugar, 1 cup crushed Oreos
Directions
Whisk chocolate batter
Whisk dry ingredients. Add eggs, buttermilk, and oil. Stir in hot coffee until smooth and pourable.
Bake layers
Bake in two 9-inch round cake pans at 350Β°F (175Β°C) for 30β35 minutes. Cool completely.
Frost and cookie crumb
Beat frosting ingredients. Frost between layers and top. Heap crushed Oreos over the cake.
