The Simple French Dessert That's (Way) Easier Than Pie
France's most forgiving baked dessert: sweet fresh blackberries, raspberries, and cherries arranged in a buttered baking dish, drowned in a crepe-like custard of eggs, milk, sugar, and almond extract, baked until golden and puffed. Difficulty: Easy.
Ingredients
- 3 cups fresh berries (cherries, blackberries, raspberries)
- 3 large eggs & 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup whole milk & 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp melted butter & 1 tsp pure vanilla & 1/4 tsp almond extract
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Directions
Blend French custard
In a blender, whiz eggs, sugar, milk, flour, melted butter, vanilla, and almond extract for 30 seconds.
Scatter berries and pour
Butter a 9-inch pie dish. Scatter berries across bottom. Pour custard evenly over fruit.
Bake until puffed
Bake at 375Β°F (190Β°C) for 35β40 minutes until puffed, set, and golden around edges. Dust with powdered sugar.
