The Hamantaschen I Make Every Single Year (It's My Family Recipe)
The classic Purim cookie: tender sugar cookie dough infused with orange zest, folded around sweet and tangy apricot preserves. A beloved annual tradition passed down through generations. Difficulty: Moderate.
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour & 1/2 cup sugar & 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 2 large eggs & 1 tsp vanilla & 1 tsp orange zest
- 3/4 cup thick apricot jam or lekvar (prune plum filling)
Directions
Make and chill dough
Beat butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla, and zest; fold in flour. Chill 30 minutes.
Cut, fill, and pinch
Roll to 1/8-inch. Cut 3-inch circles. Spoon 1 tsp apricot jam in center. Fold into three-cornered hats and pinch corners tightly.
Bake until edges are golden
Bake at 350Β°F (175Β°C) for 13β15 minutes until corners are lightly browned.
