The Chocolate Hamantaschen I've Made Thousands of Times
A modern chocolate lover's spin on traditional Purim pastries: buttery citrus-scented cookie dough pinched into three-cornered hats filled with rich chocolate ganache or Nutella fudge that never leaks during baking. Difficulty: Moderate.
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups flour & 1/2 cup sugar & 1/2 cup butter, softened & 2 eggs
- 1 tsp baking powder & 1 tsp vanilla & zest of 1 orange
- 3/4 cup Nutella or thick chocolate fudge filling
- 1 egg beaten with 1 tsp water for egg wash
Directions
Roll and cut dough circles
Beat dough ingredients and chill 1 hour. Roll out to 1/8-inch thickness; cut 3-inch circles with a glass or cookie cutter.
Fill and pinch triangles
Place 1 tsp chocolate filling in center. Brush edges with egg wash; pinch three corners together tightly into a triangle.
Bake until golden
Bake at 350Β°F (175Β°C) for 12β14 minutes until pale golden.
